  <dc:title>Palladium-Catalyzed &amp;alpha;-Arylation of &amp;alpha;,&amp;alpha;-Difluoro-&amp;beta;-Carbonyl Trifluoromethyl gem-Diols</dc:title>
  <dc:identifier>doi:10.57760/sciencedb.00zos</dc:identifier>
  <dc:language>en</dc:language>
<dc:description>In this work, &amp;alpha;,&amp;alpha;-difluoro-&amp;beta;-carbonyltrifluoromethyl gem-diol was employed as a versatile building block. Base-mediated elimination of trifluoroacetic acid from this substrate enabled the in situ generation of highly nucleophilic difluoroenolate anions. The resulting active intermediates efficiently underwent intermolecular &amp;alpha;-arylation with aryl bromides under palladium catalysis, affording a series of &amp;alpha;,&amp;alpha;-difluoroarylketones. The experimental results confirmed that the &amp;alpha;-arylation reaction proceeded smoothly using the Pd(OAc)2/BINAP catalytic ligand system with Cs2CO3 as the base additive, providing structurally diverse &amp;alpha;,&amp;alpha;-difluoro-&amp;alpha;-aryl ketone derivatives in moderate isolated yields. Substrate scope investigations demonstrated that this synthetic protocol tolerates aryl bromides with various electronic properties and steric hindrance. In general, aryl bromides bearing electron-withdrawing substituents delivered higher yields than their electron-donating counterparts. Featuring simple and facile operation, this synthetic method provides a practical strategy for the efficient preparation of gem-difluorinated carbonyl compounds.</dc:description>
