<dc:title>Species Cataloging of Macrofungi in Guangxi, China</dc:title>
  <dc:identifier>doi:10.57760/sciencedb.0103x</dc:identifier>
  <dc:language>en</dc:language>
<dc:description>Guangxi features typical karst landforms, abundant vascular plant resources and a high level of biodiversity. Macro‑fungi constitute vital germplasm resources for the edible and medicinal mushroom industry. Research on macro‑fungi in Guangxi started relatively late, yet relevant outputs have increased rapidly since 2000. Nevertheless, due to continuous updates of taxonomic systems, the existing species inventory suffers from incomplete statistics, urgent need for scientific name revision, and insufficient research on lichen‑forming macro‑fungi. Systematic collation and revision are therefore highly required. Based on publicly published literature and monographs since 1973 as well as specimen data from the Mycological Herbarium of the Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, this study covers the administrative territory of Guangxi. Following the latest fungal taxonomic system, we performed species cataloguing, taxonomic status clarification and inventory updating for macro‑fungi of Guangxi. The results showed that a total of 2 972 macro‑fungal species (including 257 lichen‑forming species) were documented in this study, belonging to 767 genera in 220 families, 50 orders and 13 classes. Among them, 635 species belong to Ascomycota and 2 337 species to Basidiomycota. There are 68 dominant families and 170 dominant genera. A total of 147 new macro‑fungal species have been originally published from Guangxi, including 37 ascomycetous species and 110 basidiomycetous species. Species records are highly uneven across prefecture‑level cities; Baise has the highest number of recorded species, while Guigang has the lowest. Compared with previous references, the present study re‑clarified taxonomic positions of taxa, incorporated lichen‑forming fungi for the first time, counted locally published new species and their municipal distributions, revised scientific names for selected species, and updated the species checklist of macro‑fungi in Guangxi. These findings provide fundamental data for subsequent diversity research, discovery of new records, construction of germplasm resource databases, conservation and sustainable utilization of macro‑fungal resources in Guangxi.</dc:description>
