<dc:title>Dataset for Wind Tunnel Experimental Study on Aerodynamic Characteristics of Multi-skater Formation in Speed Skating</dc:title>
  <dc:identifier>doi:10.57760/sciencedb.0122w</dc:identifier>
  <dc:language>en</dc:language>
<dc:description>This paper adopts the pixel method to measure the frontal projected areas of three athletes under different postures and gliding modes, establishes a fitting equation for the windward area based on human body parameters, and conducts wind tunnel tests to measure the aerodynamic drag of different queue arrangements, so as to reveal the aerodynamic interference law of multi-skater formations.Three elite junior athletes from the Hebei Speed Skating Team were selected as research subjects. All of them have participated in provincial-level and above competitions with similar body characteristics. During the tests, they uniformly wore standard speed skating suits and helmets of the same model. The wind tunnel tests were carried out in the low-speed test section of the Wind Tunnel Laboratory of Shijiazhuang Tiedao University. The test section dimensions are 4.4 m (length) &amp;times; 3.0 m (width) &amp;times; 2.0 m (height). The maximum wind speed can reach 80 m/s, and the flow field turbulence intensity is less than 0.4%, meeting the flow field standard of high-quality boundary layer wind tunnels.Aerodynamic drag was acquired by an ATI Delta high-frequency six-component force balance with a force measurement range of 165 N, sampling frequency of 1500 Hz and measurement accuracy of 0.2%. Wind speed was synchronously measured using a TFI Cobra three-dimensional fluctuating velocity probe (Cobra Probe). The pixel method [14] was used to measure the frontal projected area of individual skaters and formations. Validated by Grappe et al. [15], this method achieves accuracy comparable to the 3D scanning method with a relative error below 2%, satisfying the requirements of aerodynamic tests.</dc:description>
