  <dc:title>East China Sea Shelf Shallow-Gas Dataset</dc:title>
  <dc:identifier>doi:10.57760/sciencedb.012bu</dc:identifier>
  <dc:language>en</dc:language>
<dc:description>This dataset compiles all primary observations used in the study &amp;quot;Controls on shallow-gas distribution on the East China Sea shelf.&amp;quot; It is provided as a single Excel workbook in which each worksheet corresponds to one dataset employed in the article. The contents are: (1) a regional acoustic gas-top depth point dataset (37,728 picks) delineating shallow-gas distribution across the shelf; (2) three 0.1&amp;deg;-resolution grids of Holocene sediment thickness &amp;mdash; full Holocene (0&amp;ndash;10 ka), last 2 ka, and 7.7&amp;ndash;2 ka &amp;mdash; used to evaluate sediment-accumulation control; (3) laser grain-size data for seven boreholes (YS1&amp;ndash;YS7); (4) headspace gas concentrations (CH₄, CO₂) and stable carbon/hydrogen isotopic compositions (&amp;delta;&amp;sup1;&amp;sup3;C-CH₄, &amp;delta;D-CH₄, &amp;delta;&amp;sup1;&amp;sup3;C-CO₂) for gas-source discrimination via the Whiticar diagram; (5) major and trace element geochemistry of borehole YS6 together with redox proxies; (6) soil-mechanics indices for five gas-bearing boreholes; and (7) the raw piezocone (CPTU) profile from the single in-situ sounding near borehole YS6 that independently records the free-gas interval (8.7&amp;ndash;9.6 m). Column headers embed their units (e.g., gas_top_depth_m, CH4_uL_L). The dataset supports investigation of sediment-environment (non-diffusive) controls on shallow-gas occurrence and bears directly on global marine methane-flux accounting, which currently rests on a diffusion-based paradigm.
