<dc:title>Bibliometric and Case Study Dataset on Ecological Wastewater Treatment Systems in Underdeveloped Regions</dc:title>
  <dc:identifier>doi:10.57760/sciencedb.013t7</dc:identifier>
  <dc:language>en</dc:language>
<dc:description>The dataset was developed from the Web of Science (WoS) Core Collection and Scopus databases to investigate the development of low-cost, efficient, and ecological wastewater treatment systems. The search strategy was based on the concepts of &amp;ldquo;landscape,&amp;rdquo; &amp;ldquo;wastewater,&amp;rdquo; and &amp;ldquo;underdeveloped regions,&amp;rdquo; which were expanded into a Boolean search string. Peer-reviewed journal articles and review papers published in English were retained, while conference abstracts, editorials, early communications, and non-English publications were excluded. The initial search identified 368 records from WoS and 526 from Scopus. After manual screening and removal of five invalid records, 889 bibliographic records published between 1991 and 2025 were retained.Scopus records were exported in RIS format and converted using CiteSpace version 6.4.R1 before being merged with WoS records. The integrated dataset was analyzed using one-year time slices, a Top N threshold of 50, and the Pathfinder algorithm. The resulting bibliographic data were used to examine publication trends, research hotspots, thematic clusters, research trajectories, and key technologies in ecological wastewater treatment. The dataset also contains information from three representative practical cases: the Fort Deposit constructed wetland in Alabama, USA; the multifunctional wetland system at the Feilaixia Water Conservancy Hub in China; and the thematic constructed wetland in Salvador D&amp;iacute;az Mir&amp;oacute;n, Mexico. These cases were examined in terms of treatment technology, cost, and operation and maintenance to complement the bibliometric analysis. Invalid records were excluded during screening, while any missing bibliographic fields reflect the metadata available from the original databases.</dc:description>
