<dc:description>GSA: Open Catalogue of Global Scientific Academies===================================================Version-------Version 1.0Overview--------GSA is an open catalogue of global scientific academies. It integrates three linked evidence layers:1. Organizational identity registry2. Public-facing web content and website-structure artifacts3. Academy-linked journal records derived from ZDB corporate-body authority mappingsThe dataset is designed to support comparative research on scientific academies as organizational actors in open research information systems. It links organizational identity, web presence, and academy-linked scholarly communication infrastructure while preserving the distinction between identity records, web-derived traces, and bibliographic evidence.Directory structure-------------------The public dataset is organized into three main folders:gsa/ identity_registry/ gsa_identity_registry.csv gsa_identity_registry.json web_content/ navigation_menu/ sitemaps/ linked_journal/ gsa_linked_journal.csv gsa_linked_journal.json gsa_zdb_koeRef_mapping.csvFolder descriptions-------------------identity_registry/~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~This folder contains the released academy identity registry.Main files:- gsa_identity_registry.csv- gsa_identity_registry.jsonThese files contain the curated organizational identity layer. Each row represents one scientific academy. The stable field `acad_id` is the authoritative join key across the dataset.Typical fields include:- academy names and multilingual name variants- disciplinary scope- founding year- membership information- country/region and continent- headquarters and geocoding information- official website- contact email- external identifiers such as Wikidata, Wikipedia, DBpedia, VIAF, GND, LOC, GRID, and RORUse this layer as the organizational anchor for linking to web artifacts and journal records.web_content/~~~~~~~~~~~~This folder contains web-derived evidence used to analyze public-facing web presence.Subfolders:- navigation_menu/- sitemaps/navigation_menu/ contains extracted website navigation-menu files.sitemaps/ contains sitemap XML files and related web-structure artifacts. These files support analyses of:- website scale- URL depth- navigation structure- web presence taxonomy- website clustering- first-level category coverageThe main text uses a curated subset of 110 national academy websites for web taxonomy construction, clustering, and category-coverage analysis. The full input list for this subset should be provided in the code repository or supplementary materials as a machine-readable CSV file.linked_journal/~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~This folder contains academy-linked journal data derived from ZDB records and curated corporate-body authority mappings.Main files:- gsa_linked_journal.csv- gsa_linked_journal.json- gsa_zdb_koeRef_mapping.csvgsa_linked_journal.csv/json contains the final linked periodical journal layer. The current analytical journal layer contains 4,054 ZDB periodical journal title records.gsa_zdb_koeRef_mapping.csv contains the curated mapping between ZDB corporate-body authority keys and academy identifiers. Its key fields are:- `koeRef`: ZDB corporate-body authority key- `Corporate Body`: corporate-body label from ZDB- `acad_id`: stable academy identifier in the GSA identity registryThe journal layer supports analyses of:- academy-linked journal observability- hosted-journal rates by academy group- journal population dynamics- DDC subject composition- journal title genealogy- journal title lifecycle and survival analysisKey identifiers---------------`acad_id` Stable internal academy identifier. This is the primary join key across identity, web, and journal layers.`koeRef` ZDB corporate-body authority key. Used to link ZDB corporate-body evidence to GSA academy identifiers.`ZDB-ID` ZDB journal title record identifier. Used as the journal title record unit in the linked journal layer.Data formats------------CSV files are provided for tabular analysis.JSON files are provided for programmatic use and interoperability.Recommended use---------------Use `gsa_identity_registry.csv` as the starting point for organization-level analysis. To join journal records to academies:1. Use `gsa_zdb_koeRef_mapping.csv` to map `koeRef` to `acad_id`.2. Use `Source_koeRef` in `gsa_linked_journal.csv` to link journal records to the mapping table.3. Join the resulting academy identifiers to `gsa_identity_registry.csv`.To analyze website structure:1. Use the files in `web_content/navigation_menu/` and `web_content/sitemaps/`.2. Use the curated 110-site web taxonomy subset provided in the code repository or supplementary materials for reproducing taxonomy, clustering, and category-coverage results.Important interpretation notes------------------------------The catalogue is a curated and evidence-based release, not an exhaustive census of every academy-like organization worldwide.Missing identifiers should not be interpreted as absence of institutional legitimacy. Identifier coverage varies across external infrastructures such as ROR, Wikidata, VIAF, GND, LOC, GRID, and DBpedia.Missing or weak journal linkages should not be interpreted as absence of journal-based scholarly communication activity. They may reflect incomplete ZDB coverage, weak corporate-body attribution, historical cataloguing practices, or limitations in cross-system linkage.Web artifacts represent observable public-facing website structures at the time of collection or retrieval. Websites are dynamic, and later versions may differ from the archived release.Versioning----------This dataset is Version 1.0 of the Open Catalogue of Global Scientific Academies.Future releases should preserve existing `acad_id` values whenever possible. Changes to academy names, websites, identifiers, classification decisions, or journal linkages should be documented in a changelog.Citation--------Please cite the public data record associated with this dataset.
