<dc:title>Atmospheric gaseous elemental mercury isotopic compositions in the Tibetan Plateau and surroundings</dc:title>
  <dc:identifier>doi:10.57760/sciencedb.15214</dc:identifier>
  <dc:language>en</dc:language>
<dc:description>This dataset contains the isotopic compositions of atmospheric gaseous elemental mercury in the Tibetan Plateau and surroundings Methodology1.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;Site locations and sampling periods: Mt. Waliguan (100.898&amp;deg;E, 36.287&amp;deg;N, 3816 m a.s.l.) from November, 2020 to November, 2021; Ngari (79.706&amp;deg;E, 33.388&amp;deg;N, 4252 m a.s.l.) from August, 2020 to July, 2021; Mt. Qomolangma (86.948&amp;deg;E, 28.365&amp;deg;N, 4276 m a.s.l.) from January to November, 2021; Nam Co (90.992&amp;deg;E, 30.779&amp;deg;N, 4730 m a.s.l.) from 21 September to 1 October, 2020; Lanzhou, China (103.862&amp;deg;E, 36.050&amp;deg;N, 1540 m a.s.l.) from December, 2020 to December, 2021; Kathmandu, Nepal, (85.285&amp;deg;E, 27.685&amp;deg;N, 1324 m a.s.l.) from January to December, 2019; Dushanbe, Tajikistan (68.856&amp;deg;E, 38.559&amp;deg;N, 864 m a.s.l.) from September, 2019 to September 2020. 2.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;Field sampling, processing, and analysis: GEM (gaseous elemental mercury) samples in ambient air were collected using chlorine-impregnated activated carbon (CLC) traps at a flow rate of 2.0-2.5 L min-1 Mt. Waliguan, Ngari, Nam Co, Lanzhou, Kathmandu, and Dushanbe and 8.0-10.0 L min-1 at Mt. Qomolangma. GEM in CLC traps were then pre-concentrated into mixing acid trapping solutions (2HNO3/1HCl, v/v, 5 mL). Isotope ratios of Hg in trapping solutions were measured using cold vapor-multicollector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (CV-MC-ICPMS, Nu Instruments, U.K.). Mass dependent fractionation signatures (&amp;delta;199Hg, &amp;delta;200Hg, &amp;delta;201Hg, &amp;delta;202Hg, &amp;delta;204Hg, in &amp;permil;) were calculated as follows:&amp;delta;xxxHg = [(xxxHg/198Hg)sample/(xxxHg/198Hg)Nist 3133 - 1]&amp;times;1000&amp;permil;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;(1)where xxxHg represents the mercury stable isotopes (199Hg, 200Hg, 201Hg, 202Hg, and 204Hg). NIST 3133 refers to bracketing NIST (National Institute of Standards &amp;amp; Technology) SRM (Standard Reference Material) 3133 mercury standard solution, of which the mercury isotope ratios were measured before and after the sample collection to correct the mass bias of MC-ICPMS. MIF signatures (&amp;Delta;199Hg, &amp;Delta;200Hg, &amp;Delta;201Hg, and &amp;Delta;204Hg, in &amp;permil;) were calculated based on the Kinetic MDF law as follows:&amp;Delta;xxxHg (&amp;permil;) = &amp;delta;xxxHg &amp;ndash; &amp;beta;xxx &amp;times; &amp;delta;202Hg&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;(2)where &amp;beta;xxx is 0.252, 0.5024, 0.752, and 1.493 for 199Hg, 200Hg, 201Hg, and 204Hg, respectively.&amp;nbsp; The final analytical uncertainty (2sd) of each GEM sample reported here is the larger 2sd value of either the sample replicates or the repeated measurements of NIST SRM 8610 during the whole analytical sessions.</dc:description>
