2026-06-25 Utilization, Recycling and Disposal of Plastic Mulch in Xinjiang doi:10.57760/sciencedb.33453 en To capture governance-related heterogeneity between the state-run reclamation system and the villiage-based administrative system, we conducted a stratified random survey in September 2024 in Shaya County and the Alar Reclamation Area in the Aksu Prefecture of Xinjiang. In each region, three townships (or state farms) were randomly selected; within each, three villages (or production teams) were drawn at random; and from each village/team, 20 cotton-growing households were sampled. Survey enumerators received standardized training prior to data collection and administered questionnaires through face-to-face interviews.In total, 360 questionnaires were distributed, of which 340 were valid, yielding an effective response rate of 94.4%. The final sample covers six townships/farms and 18 villages/teams. Among the 340 respondents, 168 are from the reclamation area and 172 are from the villiage-based administrative system. The sample is predominantly male, with men accounting for 90% of respondents, and most respondents are between 40 and 60 years old. The most common level of educational attainment is junior secondary school, and ethnic minority respondents account for 52.35% of the sample. Annual per capita household income is concentrated between RMB 40,000 and RMB 100,000.
