<dc:title>Fujian Coastal Common Cetacean DNA Barcode Library (2002-2020)</dc:title>
  <dc:identifier>doi:10.57760/sciencedb.38382</dc:identifier>
  <dc:language>en</dc:language>
<dc:description>Fujian coastal area is located on the west coast of the Taiwan Strait, with abundant marine biological resources and is also a hotspot for whale resources. In order to more effectively identify whale species, this study focused on 51 stranded whales and dolphins along the coast of Fujian from 2002 to 2020. By combining mitochondrial COI genes with the D-loop region, a preliminary database of common whale DNA barcodes was established in this area. Finally, by combining morphological identification and molecular techniques, 14 species of whales and dolphins belonging to 10 genera in 6 families were successfully identified. The data content includes: (1) the Chinese name, Latin name, grounding time, grounding location, number, and grounding status of each stranded individual; (2) The state of stranded whales at the time of discovery, as well as morphological and molecular identification results, and complete sequences of COI genes and D-loop regions; (3) NCBI website obtained DNA barcode sequence numbers and length information of the same species with high similarity after BLAST. This dataset can provide data support for research on whale fauna, spatiotemporal distribution, biology, ecology, and human activity impact assessment.&amp;nbsp;</dc:description>
