<dc:title>A Bimodal Image Dataset for Intelligent Rejoining of Bamboo and Wooden Slip Fragments</dc:title>
  <dc:identifier>doi:10.57760/sciencedb.40002</dc:identifier>
  <dc:language>en</dc:language>
<dc:description>Bamboo and wooden slips are important writing media used in ancient China. Due to long-term burial and environmental deterioration, excavated slips are often recovered in a fragmented state, posing significant challenges to the restoration and study of historical documents. To facilitate research on automated fragment reassembly, we present TailorJiandu, a dedicated multimodal dataset for bamboo and wooden slip fragment matching and retrieval. The dataset addresses the lack of high-quality annotated resources in this domain and provides a standardized benchmark for developing intelligent reassembly methods. TailorJiandu systematically integrates visible-light and infrared images, enabling comprehensive characterization of fragment appearance, fracture patterns, ink traces, and surface textures. The complementary information provided by the two imaging modalities offers valuable support for fragment matching and retrieval tasks. The dataset consists of a paired sample set and an independent retrieval gallery. The paired sample set contains 953 expert-verified positive pairs and 953 negative pairs, yielding a total of 1,906 annotated fragment pairs derived from more than 1,800 bamboo and wooden slip fragments. In addition, an independent retrieval gallery comprising 1,357 unrelated fragments is provided for large-scale retrieval evaluation. By providing standardized multimodal data, reliable annotations, and dedicated evaluation resources, TailorJiandu establishes a comprehensive benchmark for intelligent fragment matching and retrieval. The dataset serves as an important resource for the digital preservation, reconstruction, and scholarly study of excavated bamboo and wooden slip documents.</dc:description>
