2026-07-02 Quranic Thematic Index in Chinese: Structured Index Data with Format Sample doi:10.57760/sciencedb.41415 en This dataset is a Chinese-language thematic index of the Qur'an, organizing 5,972 of the 6,236 verses (95.77%, post-correction) into a hierarchy of 22 parts and about 1,900 leaf themes, with 13,849 theme–verse links. It was compiled by Ma Xiuping (1964–2024), a self-taught Hui Muslim lay reader and truck driver from Changzhi, Shanxi, China, who learned typing from scratch for this project. Diagnosed with emphysema in 2019, he continued the work on daily oxygen support. His last save was on 18 May 2024, three days before his final hospitalization; he passed away in July of the same year. The computer-recorded editing time totals about 2,487 hours, while the countless hours spent reading, annotating, and organizing by hand lie beyond what any document can record.The structured data files contain no Ma Jian translation text; verses are referenced by standard verse IDs with tanzil.net links. A sample manuscript PDF (Parts 1–2, 79 pages) is included solely to illustrate the original manuscript format and arrangement. The CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license applies only to the structured index data, metadata, and documentation compiled and released by Ma Xiuping's family; it does not grant any rights to Ma Jian's translation text contained in the sample PDF.
