<dc:title>Multi-view squirrel skull (Sciurida, Callosciurus)</dc:title>

<dc:description>The multi view squirrel skull image dataset comes from the collections of Kunming Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. All specimens have been systematically preserved with unique specimen numbers and accompanied by species level classification records. To ensure the quality of image and morphological data, the specimen is first manually inspected, and a skull with intact anatomical structure and good preservation status is selected to minimize the interference caused by structural damage. The final dataset includes 538 independent skull specimens from 5 species of the squirrel family: the red bellied squirrel (Callosciurus erythraeus), the long snouted squirrel (Dremomys pernyi), the gray bellied squirrel (Callosciurus caniceps), the hidden striped squirrel (Tamiops swinhoei), and the red cheeked long snouted squirrel (Dremomys Rufigenis). To ensure consistency and reproducibility of data collection, this article adopts a standardized imaging scheme. The images were captured using Canon EOS series digital SLR cameras and standard fixed focus lenses. Two sets of soft light sources are used to provide uniform illumination, and all specimens are photographed against a black, textureless background. Place standard scale bars and color cards in each image for subsequent size and color calibration. All image acquisition resolutions are 3984 × 2240 pixels. To capture the three-dimensional morphology of each skull, six view image acquisition was performed on each specimen. The imaging scheme includes forward view, left view, right view, back view, abdominal view, and auxiliary strabismus. Capture the front view of the incisors and facial structural features; Side view depicting the contour of the zygomatic arch and dental arch; The back view and abdominal view respectively represent the key anatomical structures of the skull top and base; The oblique view provides an additional perspective for analyzing complex spatial structures. </dc:description>
