<dc:title>A Hypothesis of Tides Explained Without Centrifugal Force</dc:title>
  <dc:identifier>doi:10.57760/sciencedb.42889</dc:identifier>
  <dc:language>en</dc:language>
<dc:description>This paper excludes the barycentric centrifugal force and explains tidal phenomena solely based on Newton's law of universal gravitation. To address the two daily tides, a tidal ellipse profile parallel to the equatorial plane is established. The formation mechanism of two daily tides is explained through force decomposition, consistent with the law of conservation of energy. To address spring and neap tides, the combined gravitational force of the Moon and the Sun is calculated. When the Moon and the Sun are on opposite sides of the Earth, the absolute values of the two tidal forces are summed to reflect the actual contribution of the collapse force on the far side. Verification through second-order differences demonstrates that computing tidal forces by differentiating the gravitational forces of the Moon and the Sun is valid. This model provides qualitative explanations for equatorial tides, solstitial tides, perigean and apogean tides, as well as tidal lag phenomena.Preliminary calculations at Zhuanghe Port indicate that the proposed method can be applied to tidal prediction.</dc:description>
