<dc:title>H2S adsorption performance and mechanism over FAU zeolite with different H+/Na+ ratio</dc:title>

<dc:description>	Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) removal from industrial gases remains a critical challenge for environmental protection and safety production requirement. FAU zeolites are promising sorbents for H2S capture owing to their well-defined microporous structure, ion-exchangeability, and tunable acidity. However, the role of the H+/Na+ ratio in regulating H2S adsorption behavior and the corresponding surface reaction mechanism remains insufficiently understood. Herein, FAU zeolites with varying H+/Na+ ratios were prepared via ion exchange using NH4Cl solutions with different concentrations. The H2S adsorption performance of sorbents was evaluated using a fixed-bed equipment, and the physicochemical structure of the sorbents was characterized by X-ray diffraction, N2 adsorption and desorption isotherms, NH3-programmed temperature desorption. The adsorption mechanism was investigated using in situ infrared spectroscopy. The results show that ion exchange progressively increased the H+/Na+ ratio, accompanied by decreased relative crystallinity, reduced surface area and micropore volume, and enhanced acidity. Compared with the parent FAU zeolite, the modified zeolites exhibited lower H2S breakthrough capacities, indicating the contribution of Na+ sites to H2S adsorption. The H+/Na+ ratio of 0.67 showed a slight increase in adsorption performance, which was associated with the formation of suitable Si–OH–Al sites. The adsorption of H2S on the modified zeolites consumes the original hydroxyl groups in the supercage and generates free Si–OH–Al groups within the pore network, representing the fundamental mechanism through which H2S adsorption promotes the formation of Brønsted acid sites. </dc:description>
