<dc:title>Lunar South Pole Rock Shadow Dataset under Low Solar Elevation Angles</dc:title>
  <dc:identifier>doi:10.57760/sciencedb.44630</dc:identifier>
  <dc:language>en</dc:language>
<dc:description>The lunar south pole represents a critical region for future crewed lunar landings and lunar research station construction. However, the solar elevation angle here remains below 5&amp;deg; all year round. Terrain objects such as rocks tend to form long, sharply defined shadows, resulting in images with wide dynamic ranges and low signal-to-noise ratios (SNR) within shadow regions. When classical 3D Gaussian Splatting is directly adopted for scene reconstruction and novel view rendering, defects including lost textures and geometric details in shadow areas and insufficient Gaussian density in shadow zones frequently occur. This dataset consists of lunar surface rock and shadow images. Camera pose estimation and SfM sparse point cloud initialization have been accomplished via COLMAP, and the dataset is generated by Lunar-SouthGS.</dc:description>
