<dc:title>Results test of Aramid inserts to reduce shear fracture in GFRP composite materials for aeronautical and naval use</dc:title>

<dc:description>Delamination is a critical failure mode in glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) laminates used in artisanal boatbuilding, particularly under dynamic loading associated with slamming phenomena. This study evaluates the effectiveness of interlaminar aramid fiber stitching as a reinforcement technique to improve the interlaminar shear strength and damage tolerance of GFRP laminates manufactured using traditional hand lay-up processes. Laminates composed of multidirectional glass mat and woven roving fabrics with polyester resin were reinforced by aramid stitching concentrated near the neutral axis, using stitch densities between 5 and 10 stitches per square centimeter. The mechanical response was characterized through short-beam three-point bending tests to estimate the apparent interlaminar shear strength and elastic modulus, complemented by direct interlaminar shear tests using a custom cutting blade to induce controlled delamination. The experimental force–displacement data were interpreted within the cohesive zone model framework, allowing the estimation of interlaminar shear strength, resilience energy, and post-failure toughness. The results show that aramid stitching increases the maximum interlaminar shear stress required to initiate delamination by approximately 11% to 25% compared to unstitched laminates, while significantly enhancing energy absorption, with resilience and toughness energies increasing by up to 70% and 50%, respectively, depending on stitch density. The findings demonstrate that interlaminar aramid stitching promotes more damage-tolerant failure mechanisms and represents a practical reinforcement strategy to enhance the structural durability of composite laminates in artisanal marine applications.</dc:description>
