<dc:title>Study on the solidification behaviors of metal droplets under different temperature gradients</dc:title>
  <dc:identifier>doi:10.57760/sciencedb.45478</dc:identifier>
  <dc:language>en</dc:language>
<dc:description>This study proposes a gradient temperature field modulation method for regulating metal droplet solidification formation. An experimental platform comprising droplet generation, gradient temperature substrate, and data acquisition systems was established to investigate droplet dynamic evolution from spreading to solidification under different temperature gradients. Results demonstrate that initial spreading is governed by impact inertia and surface tension, with substrate temperature having negligible influence on the first peak values of the width coefficient. While spreading and recoil durations remain nearly constant, oscillation and solidification durations increase nonlinearly with substrate temperature, rising 89% from 275.47 ms at 100 &amp;deg;C to 520.87 ms at 400 &amp;deg;C under constant temperature substrate conditions. Under gradient temperature substrate conditions, the high-temperature side dominates solidification regulation, and the induced surface tension gradient generates marangoni flow, driving molten metal migration from low-temperature side to high-temperature side and producing asymmetric final solidification morphology. At TL=300&amp;deg;C 和 TR=400℃, metal droplet achieves maximum dimensionless width coefficient (&amp;xi;=1.1473), minimum dimensionless height coefficient (&amp;eta;=0.4921), and top surface inclination angle (&amp;gamma;=4.564&amp;deg;), indicating optimized lateral spreading&amp;ndash;vertical shrinkage balance. This work reveals the coupling mechanism among heat transfer, Marangoni flow, and solidification behavior, providing theoretical and experimental support for active control in additive manufacturing.</dc:description>
