<dc:description>This dataset contains processed data and analysis code associated with the manuscript “Dependence of Cloud-to-Ground Lightning Activity on City Size: Observational Evidence From Thunderstorms Crossing Cities in Three Urban Agglomerations of China.” The study uses warm-season Advanced Time of Arrival and Direction (ADTD) cloud-to-ground lightning observations and Doppler weather radar data from 2020–2025 to investigate thunderstorms crossing cities in the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei region, Yangtze River Delta, and Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area. A total of 3,825 thunderstorms crossing cities were identified and classified into Type1, Type2, and Type3 according to total cloud-to-ground flash count and event duration. The deposited files include processed event-level data supporting the main analyses, including thunderstorm characteristics, city and city-size classifications, thunderstorm types, relative lightning density (RLD) between urban and rural reference areas, positive RLD contributions in storm-motion-relative sectors, relative positive flash rate (RPFR), and relative peak current (RPC). Processed radar data used for representative thunderstorm cases are also included. The accompanying codes support thunderstorm classification, statistical analyses of RLD across city-size classes, directional lightning enhancement, RPFR and RPC analyses, and output of the corresponding results. The study covers the warm seasons from 1 May to 31 October during 2020–2025. The original ADTD lightning and Doppler radar observations were obtained from the China Meteorological Administration and remain subject to the applicable data access regulations. ERA5 and CLCD data used in the study are available from their original public data sources and are not redistributed in this dataset. </dc:description>
