<dc:title>Structural Insights into the Enhanced Crystallization Resistance of B2O3-Modified Aluminophosphate Glasses</dc:title>
  <dc:identifier>doi:10.57760/sciencedb.46196</dc:identifier>
  <dc:language>en</dc:language>
<dc:description>This work systematically investigates the effect of B2O3 addition (0&amp;ndash;10 mol%) on the structure and thermal stability of aluminophosphate glasses with a composition of (100&amp;minus;x)(15K2O&amp;ndash;15MgO&amp;ndash;10Al2O3&amp;ndash;60P2O3)&amp;ndash;xB2O3. The structural evolution of the glasses was analyzed by a multi-scale characterization approach including Raman spectroscopy, multinuclear solid-state NMR (11B, 27Al, 31P) with advanced dipolar recoupling experiments (31P{27Al}, 27Al{31P}, 11B{31P}, and 31P{&amp;sup1;&amp;sup1;B} REDOR), as well as neutron and X-ray total scattering with pair distribution function analysis. The thermal, physical, and chemical properties of the glasses were systematically measured. With increasing B2O3 content, it is found that B2O3 is incorporated exclusively as tetrahedral [BO4] species forming P&amp;ndash;O&amp;ndash;B cross-links while preserving P&amp;ndash;O&amp;ndash;Al connectivity, preferentially substituting P&amp;ndash;O&amp;ndash;P bridges within Q2 phosphate chains with P&amp;ndash;O&amp;ndash;B linkages and promoting Al coordination redistribution from Al(VI) toward Al(V) and Al(IV). X-ray scattering indicate that the introduction of B2O3 significantly affects the medium range order in the 5&amp;ndash;8 &amp;Aring; range, which is attributed to the strengthening of P&amp;ndash;O&amp;ndash;B cross linking bonds and changes in the relative contents of other components. These structural modifications are found to be closely correlated with the markedly improved crystallization resistance, as evidenced by the progressive increase in &amp;Delta;T (= Tx &amp;minus; Tg) and the complete suppression of Al(PO3)3 crystallization at 5 mol% B2O3. This work provides a comprehensive structure&amp;ndash;property map for designing thermally stable aluminophosphate glasses for high-power laser and fiber amplifier applications. </dc:description>
