<dc:description>Using rape as the test material and adopting tray seedling raising technology, this study investigated the effects of different particle sizes of volcanic rocwith composted cow manure and straw on the physical and chemical properties of the substrate and the growth and development of rape, aiming to replace peat. The results showed that thality of the volcanic rock substrates in treatments A (particle size >5 mm) and B (3–5 mm) was superior to that of the control (CK), with nt A1 having the highest substrate quality. The effects of treatments C1 and C2 on rape cultivation were better than those of other treatments, while the quality of the volcanic rock substrates treatment D (5 mm) could serve ate material, improving the substrate's nutrient content and physical properties. Bulk density increased with decreasing volcanic rock particle size and decreased with increasing volcanic rock addition, except for particle <1 mm, where bulk density increased with increasing addition. Air porosity increased with increasing particle size and addition, while water-holding porosity decreased with increasing particle size and addition; howevetal porosity remained unchanged regardless of particle size and addition. The nutrient content of substrates with the same volume ratio showed a downward trend. In subsequent seedling cultivation, volcanic rock ent particle sizes and proportions should be added according to the growth and development requirements of the seedlings.</dc:description>
