<dc:title>Dataset on conservation tillage techniques for enhancing biodiversity under integrated management practices such as straw return to the field</dc:title>

<dc:description>This comprehensive dataset originates from a series of controlled experiments conducted by the Northeast Institute of Geography and Agroecology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (Harbin Campus and Hailun Soil and Water Conservation Monitoring Station). It encompasses a variety of research systems, including field trials, pot-based microcosms and root-chamber cultures. Adopting a holistic plant–soil–microbial perspective, the dataset integrates the dynamics of crop nitrogen uptake and allocation (based on 15N isotope tracing), nitrogen fate and turnover within the soil–plant–microbial system (three-year pot experiments, 15N labelling), bacterial and fungal community structure and functional gene abundance, and microbial community responses under rhizosphere spatial gradients (compartmentalised sampling in root chambers). The core dataset comprises ¹⁵N isotope tracing data, quantitative nitrogen turnover data, bacterial/fungal amplicon sequences, and qPCR absolute abundance data. Data formats include Excel (.xlsx) spreadsheets for physicochemical and quantitative data, and Fastq sequencing files. In terms of data volume, the root chamber amplicon data amount to 483.28 MB, the fungal data to 459.72 MB, and the bacterial data to 518.12 MB. The study area covers the Harbin Research Park and the Hailun Soil and Water Conservation Monitoring Station in Heilongjiang Province; the time period covers key stages (V5, R1, R3, R5, R8) throughout the entire growth cycle of soya beans from 2016 to 2020; treatments include maize straw return (CR), representing a typical straw return practice in the Northeast Black Soil Region; taxonomic groups covered include bacterial and fungal communities as well as functional microorganisms involved in the nitrogen cycle; the research framework encompasses three scales—field, pot and root chamber—enabling integrated, cross-scale analysis ranging from microscopic rhizosphere processes to field performance.</dc:description>
