<dc:title>A Comprehensive Dataset on the Effects of Livestock Manure Resource Utilization on Soil Microbiological Characteristics</dc:title>
  <dc:identifier>doi:10.57760/sciencedb.iga.001fq</dc:identifier>
  <dc:language>en</dc:language>
<dc:description>Supported by the National Key R&amp;amp;D Program (2023YFD1501200), the Strategic Priority Research Program of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (XDA28090100), and the Liaoning Provincial Science and Technology Plan Project, this dataset was generated from field positioning experiments and simulated fermentation experiments conducted in typical agricultural regions (Changtu County and Kangping County) of Liaoning Province between 2021 and 2024. The study systematically investigated the effects of different livestock manure resource utilization strategies on soil microbiological characteristics, manure gas emissions, and liquid organic fertilizer quality. The dataset comprises four core experimental modules:
1. Effects of High-Temperature Aerobic Fermentation Organic Fertilizer on Black Soil (Corresponding file: XDA298090105-001.xlsx) : Conducted in black soil regions of Changtu County from 2022 to 2024, this module studied the effects of chicken manure-derived high-temperature aerobic fermentation organic fertilizer on soil chemical properties, enzyme activities, microbial community structure, and crop yields in soils planted with peanut, maize, and rice. The data include soil physicochemical indicators (pH, SOC, TN, TP, TK, AP, AK, AN, etc.), activities of more than ten enzymes related to carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus cycling (DHA, &amp;alpha;Glu, &amp;beta;Glu, NAG, &amp;alpha;GAL, &amp;beta;GAL, PPO, POD, XYL, CEL, etc.), high-throughput sequencing data of bacteria and fungi (OTU numbers, alpha diversity indices, beta diversity, relative abundance of dominant phyla/genera, KEGG functional predictions), and crop yield data.
2. Effects of Biogas Slurry on Different Soil Types (Corresponding file: XDA298090105-002.xlsx) : Conducted in Kangping County in 2021, this module studied the effects of high-dose pig farm biogas slurry application on nutrient cycling, enzyme activities, microbial communities, and heavy metal contents in two typical soil types (black soil and aeolian sandy soil). The data include soil nutrient indicators (NO₃⁻-N, NH₄⁺-N, AP, AK, SOC, TP, TK, TN, TC), enzyme activities related to carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus cycling (AcP, AIP, PDEs, GAL, Urease), heavy metal contents (Cd, As, Hg, Zn, Cu, Pb, Ni, Cr), microbial abundances (gene copy numbers of bacteria and fungi), and microbial diversity data (OTU numbers, alpha diversity indices, community composition at phylum and genus levels).
3. Livestock Manure Production in Changtu County (Corresponding file: Changtu County Livestock Production Record Sheet (2023).xlsx) : Based on the 2023 annual livestock production statistics of Changtu County Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau, this module systematically documents the inventory, slaughter numbers, and manure production核算 data of various livestock and poultry across 33 townships and four state-owned farms (Sanjiangkou, Baoli, Mangniuxinxiang, and Liangjiaz)i. The data cover cattle (yellow cattle, dairy cattle, buffalo, yak), horses, donkeys, mules, camels, pigs, sheep (goats and sheep), poultry (chickens, ducks, geese), rabbits, and bees. Fields include period-end inventory, breeding females, newborn offspring, annual slaughter numbers, and solid/liquid manure production (tons) calculated according to national livestock manure discharge coefficient standards, comprising dozens of data fields that comprehensively reflect the county's livestock production profile.
4. Effects of Microbial Agent Addition on Manure Gas Emissions and Liquid Organic Fertilizer Microbiological Indicators (Corresponding file: XDA298090105-004.xlsx) : Through simulated anaerobic fermentation experiments with different microbial agents, this module systematically records the dynamic changes in cumulative methane (CH₄) emissions, pH, and electrical conductivity (Ec) over a 192-day fermentation period across four microbial agent treatments and a control. Additionally, it documents key indicators of the fermentation end-products including seed germination index (GI), protease activity, dehydrogenase activity, and bacterial/fungal microbial abundances. This provides scientific evidence for microbial agent screening and fermentation process optimization in manure resource utilization.
This dataset is stored in Excel format, containing multiple worksheets with complete data records. Data accuracy complies with relevant national standards and laboratory analysis specifications. The dataset systematically reveals the regulatory mechanisms of different livestock manure resource utilization strategies on soil microbial community structure, diversity, and function, establishing a complete data chain from county-level manure resource accounting to field application effects and fermentation process optimization. It provides crucial data support for optimizing organic substitution fertilization strategies in Northeast China and promoting black soil protection and sustainable agriculture.</dc:description>
