<dc:description>a. Data content (data file/table name, observation index content included)
This data includes the global spatial-temporal data set of water bodies occupied by urban land expansion with a resolution of 30m from 1986 to 2015, reflecting the distribution of global water bodies occupied by urban expansion from 1986 to 2015.
b. Construction purpose
Water not only plays an important role in the global material cycle, climate regulation and natural resource protection, but also serves human production and life. The United Nations sustainable development goal points out that "water supply and sanitation should be provided for all and sustainable management should be carried out". However, due to some improper human activities, the inland water ecosystem in the world has been seriously damaged, and the realization of this goal is facing great challenges. Since the 1970s, the rapid increase of global population and rapid economic development have led to the increasing demand for land in urban development, which has led to dramatic changes in land use types at the edge of cities and towns. The transformation from water to urban land is one of them. The expansion of urban land has led to the occupation of some natural water bodies, such as ponds and rivers, and the complete change of natural surface characteristics. Understanding the direct occupation of water bodies by urban land expansion is an integral part of a comprehensive understanding of the impact of human activities on the ecological environment.
c. Service object
It can widely serve scientific researchers in water resources protection, ecological monitoring and other related disciplines.
