<dc:title>Influence of Brake Disc Surface Grooved Structure on the Braking Efficiency of High-speed Train Operating in Icy and Snowy Environments</dc:title>

<dc:description>The high-speed trains operating in icy and snowy environments are highly prone to the accumulation of large amounts of ice and snow around the bogie region, which can prevent effective friction generation at the braking interface, degrade braking efficiency, and threaten operational safety. To mitigate the above problems, a surface grooved structure on the brake disc is designed to maintain braking efficiency in icy and snowy environments. Firstly, a braking test in icy and snowy environments is conducted using a self-designed low-temperature equipment in conjunction with a scaled inertia braking test rig. Then, comparative braking tests are conducted on brake disc with surface non-grooved/grooved structure under different initial braking conditions. And the friction coefficient, velocity, and braking distance are systematically evaluated. Finally, the mechanism of de-icing by surface grooved structure is analyzed in conjunction with finite element model. The results show that under icy and snowy conditions, low initial braking velocity and low braking pressure have a significant impact on the braking efficiency of non-grooved brake disc. At higher initial braking velocity and higher braking pressure, the braking interface of the non-grooved structure brake disc returns to a dry-contact state because the rapid temperature rise causes the ice and snow melt. And grooved brake disc can quickly and effectively remove ice and snow from the braking surface through the scraping action of the surface grooved surface structure during braking, thus ensuring the braking efficiency. Under the conditions of 50 km/h, 23 kN and -20°C, the braking distance of the surface grooved structure brake disc is 77 m, which is only 35.8% then the distance(215m) of non-grooved surface structure brake disc under the same operating conditions, thereby markedly ensuring the braking efficiency. The research findings can effectively guide the design of train braking systems in icy and snowy environments.</dc:description>
