<dc:title>Seasonal dynamics of methane production and emission from aquaculture ponds in the Minjiang River estuary</dc:title>

<dc:description>Coastal aquaculture ponds are an indispensable source of methane (CH4) emissions in regional greenhouse gas budgets. However, there is still a lack of systematic understanding of the seasonal dynamics and driving factors of CH4 production and emissions in such systems. This study focuses on the cultivation pond formed by natural salt marsh wetland reclamation at the mouth of the Minjiang River. By combining field in situ observations and indoor cultivation experiments, the seasonal variation characteristics of soil CH4 production potential, water gas interface CH4 emission flux, and related environmental factors in the cultivation pond were explored. The dataset covers the soil CH4 production potential, CH4 emission flux at the water gas interface, basic soil physicochemical properties, and gene abundance data of functional microorganisms related to methane metabolism processes in different seasons. This dataset can provide support for revealing the seasonal variation patterns and key driving mechanisms of CH4 production and emissions in coastal aquaculture ponds, while also serving the accurate seasonal accounting of CH4 emissions in coastal aquaculture ponds and the development of targeted emission reduction strategies. </dc:description>
