<dc:title>Infrared camera trapping dataset for birds and mammals in Mangkang Yunnan Snub-Nosed Monkey National Nature Reserve, Xizang, China (2021–2025)</dc:title>

<dc:description>Obtaining comprehensive baseline data on biodiversity is an essential prerequisite for advancing the establishment of a protected area system with national parks as the main body. To fill the gap in bird and mammal diversity records in the Xizang Mangkang Yunnan Snub-nosed Monkey National Nature Reserve, a total of 122 infrared camera traps were deployed within the reserve and surrounding areas from December 2021 to July 2025, yielding 46,068 camera-trap days and 102,308 valid images, from which 21,031 independent detections were identified. A total of 26 mammal species (4 orders, 12 families) and 51 bird species (8 orders, 18 families) were recorded, including 6 Class I nationally protected species (e.g., Rhinopithecus bieti, Moschus berezovskii, Panthera pardus) and 20 Class II nationally protected species (e.g., Macaca mulatta, Elaphodus cephalophus, Capricornis milneedwardsii). According to the Xizang Autonomous Region protection categories, 3 species are listed as Class I and 19 as Class II, and 46 species are included in the Terrestrial wildlife with important ecological, scientific and social values protected wildlife list. Based on the IUCN Red List, the dataset includes 3 Endangered (EN), 4 Vulnerable (VU), and 3 Near Threatened (NT) species; additionally, 3 species are listed in CITES Appendix I and 19 species in Appendix II. The fauna is dominated by species from the Qingzang (QZ) and Southwest (SW) regions. The number of camera sites and independent images for each species is fully documented in the dataset. This dataset systematically compiles monitoring locations, camera-trap effort, independent detection events, protection categories, faunal affinities, and endemism information, providing reusable base data for biodiversity assessment, conservation management, and subsequent ecological analyses in the study area.</dc:description>
