<dc:title>Long-term community baseline dataset from alpine grassland monitoring sites across different climatic zones in Xizang, China</dc:title>

<dc:description>Alpine grasslands are an important zonal vegetation type on the Tibetan Plateau, and their community composition and structure are highly sensitive to climate change and human disturbance. Establishing a long-term baseline dataset based on permanent monitoring is therefore of great significance for revealing regional vegetation patterns, assessing ecological change, and supporting long-term monitoring. In this study, we integrated the 2025 community survey data from long-term alpine grassland monitoring stations across different climatic zones in Xizang, China, to construct a baseline dataset of alpine grassland communities. The dataset consists of four worksheets: site information, community survey data, diversity indices, and species list and distribution. It includes records from 15 sites, 140 species observation records, and 52 species in total. The community survey data include species names, cover, height, species richness, as well as community diversity indices calculated from the survey data, including the Shannon-Wiener index, Simpson index, and Pielou’s evenness index. The results showed that total cover differed markedly among grassland types, with alpine meadow being significantly higher than alpine steppe and shrub grassland, whereas species richness and the main diversity indices did not differ significantly overall. This dataset systematically reflects the baseline composition, structure, and diversity characteristics of alpine grassland communities under fenced protection across different climatic zones in Xizang, and can provide fundamental data support for regional community comparisons, long-term dynamic monitoring, ecological restoration assessment, and related modeling studies.</dc:description>
