<dc:title>Dataset of monthly litter dynamics for secondary forests in Southwest China (2005–2015)</dc:title>

<dc:description>Litterfall production is a core indicator for assessing material cycling, energy flow, and productivity in forest ecosystems. Its monthly dynamics can directly reflect the phenological rhythm, growth status, and response characteristics of forest communities to environmental changes. To address the insufficiency of litter production dataset of secondary forest ecosystems in southwest China, we carried out long-term monitoring of litterfall production. According to the unified technical specifications of Chinese Ecosystem Research Network (CERN), 30 litter traps were installed in the permanent monitoring plots of plantation and deciduous broad-leaved forest, respectively. The dataset provided detailed information on the dry weight of litter components (including branches, leaves, flowers, fruits, bark, bryophytes, lichens, and debris) from 2005 to 2015. Users can retrieve data by collection date and litter component. The establishment and sharing of the dataset provides baseline data for dynamic studies of litterfall in different forest types, and support in-depth research on the sustainable management of forest ecosystems in southwest China.</dc:description>
