<dc:title>LA-ICP-MS major and trace element dataset of Ordovician carbonate minerals from the southern margin of the Ordos Basin</dc:title>

<dc:description>This dataset provides LA-ICP-MS major and trace element analytical results for carbonate minerals from the Lower-Middle Ordovician Yeli-Liangjiashan Formation and Majiagou Formation in the southern margin of the Ordos Basin. The dataset includes 57 analytical spots from different types of carbonate minerals, mainly dolomite and calcite, and records sample number, mineral type, occurrence, crystal size, cathodoluminescence intensity, and elemental concentrations. The measured elements include Al, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Sr, Y, Ba, and rare earth elements from La to Lu. All element concentrations are reported in ppm. These data are used to investigate the relationships among cathodoluminescence characteristics, major and trace elements, and rare earth elements of carbonate minerals.Combined with cathodoluminescence observations, mathematical statistical analysis, and classification algorithms, this dataset supports the study of intrinsic geochemical relationships within the data and the systematic evaluation of how carbonate diagenetic fluids influence the cathodoluminescence behavior of carbonate minerals. The dataset can provide geochemical evidence for understanding carbonate mineral diagenesis, fluid-rock interaction, and the controlling factors of cathodoluminescence in Ordovician carbonate rocks.</dc:description>
