<dc:title>Study on interfacial compatibility of glass seals/interconnector coatings in solid oxide cell stacks</dc:title>

<dc:description>[Background]: Interfacial stability between metallic interconnectors, protective coatings, and glass seals is critical for long-term reliability in solid oxide cells, especially under different atmospheres. [Purpose]: This study aims to investigate the interfacial compatibility among a thermally converted MnCoNiFeCu-derived protective coating, SUS441 interconnector, and BaO-SiO2-B2O3-MgO-Al2O3 glass under air, hydrogen, and humid hydrogen atmospheres. [Methods]: An interfacial system consisting of a thermally converted MnCoNiFeCu coating/SUS441 and coating/glass seal was prepared. Cross-sectional microstructures of interfaces after heat treatment at different atmospheres were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Elemental distributions across the interfaces were analyzed by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) using line-scan profiles and elemental mappings. Phase compositions of the glass seal and the thermally converted coating were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD). [Results]: Under humid hydrogen atmosphere, the interfacial morphology becomes rougher with increased porosity, and local elemental boundaries become less distinct, indicating a more complex interfacial evolution. However, the interfaces remain continuous, and Cr is mainly confined to the SUS441 side without evident large-scale outward diffusion. [Conclusions]: These results suggest that the MnCoNiFeCu-derived spinel-based protective coating can maintain basic interfacial bonding with both SUS441 interconnector and G0 glass seal under the tested conditions. Although reducing and humid hydrogen atmospheres promote interfacial roughening and structural heterogeneity, Cr remains mainly confined to the SUS441 side. Therefore, this coating provides a useful reference for interfacial design in SOC stack.</dc:description>
