<dc:title>Study on Flow and Heat Transfer and Oxidation Corrosion Characteristics of Lead–Bismuth in Wire-Wrapped Rod Bundle Assembly</dc:title>

<dc:description> [Background] Oxidation corrosion of structural materials in liquid lead–bismuth eutectic (LBE) is a key challenge for engineering applications. [Purpose] This study aims to investigate the coupled behavior of flow and heat transfer with oxidation corrosion in wire-wrapped rod bundle fuel assemblies of lead–bismuth cooled fast reactors. [Methods] A numerical study was carried out using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Based on the reference flow and heat transfer conditions, oxygen mass transfer and oxidation corrosion models were coupled. Species transport equations with oxygen consumption source terms were solved to obtain the temporal and spatial distributions of oxygen concentration and near-wall oxide layers within the assembly. [Results] The results show that the flow field characteristics induced by wire wraps have a significant influence on the spatial distribution of oxygen. Under short-term operating conditions, the oxide layer thickness distribution is jointly controlled by temperature and oxygen concentration. After 10 000 h of operation, the presence of oxide layers leads to a deterioration of heat transfer performance, resulting in a maximum average temperature increase of 6.67 K at the inner wall and 6.24 K at the outer wall of the solid domain, while the heat transfer coefficient of lead–bismuth decreases by up to 1166 W·m-2·K-1. [Conclusions] These results provide a reference for thermo-hydraulic optimization and oxidation corrosion control of wire-wrapped fuel assemblies in lead–bismuth cooled fast reactors. </dc:description>
