<dc:title>Acid-modified hydrochar for higher biodegradation rate of atrazine in various conditions by Paenarthrobacter sp. KN0901: Higher cell viability and bacterial number</dc:title>

<dc:description>In this study, acid-modified hydrochar was used to enhance the bioremediation performance of the atrazine-degrading strain Paenarthrobacter sp. KN0901. Compared with raw hydrochar, phosphoric acid-modified hydrochar (PHC) exhibited a higher carbonization degree, larger specific surface area, and more defect sites. PHC significantly improved the bacterial growth concentration, cell viability, and atrazine degradation efficiency. Moreover, it maintained stable enhancement under various stressful conditions including low temperature, extreme pH, and poor nutrition. After five cycles of application, the material still supported high-efficiency proliferation and degradation activity of the strain, showing excellent stability and biocompatibility. This work provides a new strategy for the development and application of bioremediation technologies for atrazine-contaminated sites in harsh environments.</dc:description>
