<dc:title>A dataset of breeding data for two Aegithalos species in the Dongzhai National Nature Reserve, Henan</dc:title>

<dc:description>Breeding biology data provide a crucial foundation for studying life-history evolution, reproductive strategies, and population dynamics. Sympatric closely related species often experience similar climatic, vegetation, and resource conditions. Comparing their breeding characteristics can help identify differences in reproductive strategies and resource use between species, providing a basis for understanding niche differentiation and species coexistence. This dataset systematically compiles breeding monitoring data for the black-throated tit (Aegithalos concinnus) and the silver-throated tit (A. glaucogularis) collected during 2016–2017 in Dongzhai National Nature Reserve, Henan, China. It contains 430 breeding nests, including 218 nests of the black-throated tit and 212 nests of the silver-throated tit. With the nest as the basic unit of record, the dataset primarily includes information on discovery date, nesting plant, nest height, laying date, clutch size, hatching date, brood size, nest fate, and failure stage. The data cover breeding phenology, reproductive performance, and nest-site characteristics. Data quality was controlled through standardized field surveys, regular nest checks and data verification. This dataset can supplement basic breeding biology information for the two Aegithalos species, facilitate comparisons of breeding phenology, nest-site use, and breeding outcomes between sympatric closely related species, and be integrated with climatic and vegetation data to provide basic data for studies of avian breeding phenology, nest-site selection, reproductive performance and environmental responses.</dc:description>
