<dc:title>Catalytic and Nanoconfinement Synergistic Mechanism for Hydrogen Storage Performance of NiO@CNTs-Modified MgH2</dc:title>

<dc:description>To address the core bottlenecks of magnesium-based hydrogen storage materials, namely slow kinetics, high operating temperatures, and poor cycling stability, this study designed and constructed a NiO@CNTs composite structure, developing a synergistic catalytic-confinement modification strategy. The Mg2Ni/Mg2NiH4 phase, generated in situ during the hydrogen storage/desorption reaction between NiO@CNTs and MgH2, acts as a hydrogen pump to significantly weaken Mg-H bonds. Concurrently, it confines MgH2 particles within the CNTs network, thereby suppressing sintering and agglomeration. The composite material NiO@CNTs-MgH2 achieved a hydrogen storage capacity of 6.23wt%, an initial dehydrogenation temperature as low as 207.6°C, and reduced the dehydrogenation activation energy to 91.05 kJ/mol. It released 5.2 wt% hydrogen within 10 minutes at 300°C, maintaining 96% capacity retention after 20 cycles. The study reveals that the hydrogen pumping effect and nano-confinement do not simply add up but form a mutually reinforcing synergistic mechanism. Mg2Ni/Mg2NiH4 accelerates hydrogen interfacial reactions, while CNT confinement stabilizes the active phase and particle structure, jointly ensuring the material's long-term stability. This research provides new theoretical foundations and design insights for rationally developing high-performance, long-lifetime magnesium-based hydrogen storage materials, advancing the practical application of magnesium-based solid-state hydrogen storage.</dc:description>
