<dc:title>The potential inter~regional flow pathways and carbon transfer of end~of~life power batteries in China formal treatment Rrquirements</dc:title>

<dc:description>Power batteries as the core components of the new energy vehicle industry, were gradually entering into their end~of~life stage and resulted in a large~scale of waste power batteries. At present, the formal recycling and treatment capacity for end~of~life power batteries in China was not equally distributed according to the practical treatment requirements, and there was a lack of recycling and treatment capacity in some provinces. Therefore, inter~regional flows of end~of~life power batteries, would occur under formal treatment requirement, resulting in additional transportation and carbon transfer between provinces. In this study, the potential inter~regional flow pathways of end~of~life power batteries from 13 provinces in China, which lacked formal treatment capacity, were evaluated and identified based on the models by minimizing transportation costs and total treatment costs. Furthermore, the carbon transfer associated with the treatment of end~of~life power batteries was quantitatively analyzed, together with the potential carbon reduction benefits if the treatment capacity was optimized. Results showed that under the potential flow pathways, the carbon transfer of each 100t end~of~life power batteries treatment ranged from 29.47 to 40.18 tCO2e in most provinces, with a few provinces reaching 77.56 tCO2e. Optimization of the treatment capacity layout could yield significant economic and carbon reduction benefits. Taking 2021~2025 as example, if the formal treatment capacity in 13 provinces were established, it would bring about 21.6159 to 24.5341 million yuan savings of transportation costs and 21136.00 to 23989.47 tCO₂e reduction benefits. Priorities should be given to the formal treatment capacity establishment in Sichuan, Shandong, Beijing, Chongqing and Tianjin, which would help to maximize the economic and carbon reduction benefits.</dc:description>
