<dc:title>Statistical Data on Billion-Dollar Weather and Climate Disasters in the United States (1980–2024)</dc:title>

<dc:description>According to publicly available statistics from the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the United States experienced more than 403 billion-dollar weather and climate disaster events between 1980 and 2024. These events included 32 droughts, 45 floods, 9 freeze events, 203 severe storms, 67 tropical cyclones, 23 wildfires, and 24 winter storms. The average annual number of such disasters increased from fewer than five events per year in the 1980s to more than eighteen events per year during the past decade, exhibiting an increasingly complex and compound nature. These events often persist for extended periods and affect large geographic areas, creating multiple challenges for energy supply systems, transportation operations, and post-disaster recovery efforts. This dataset provides statistical information on billion-dollar weather and climate disasters in the United States, including:Billion-Dollar Weather and Climate Disasters in the United States (1980–2024);Monthly Counts of Billion-Dollar Disaster Events in the United States (1980–2024);Billion-Dollar Disaster Events in the United States (1980–2024);State-Level Economic Losses from Billion-Dollar Disasters in the United States (1980–2024).</dc:description>
