<dc:title>Choosing the New Workplace: The Impact of AI Use at Work on Telecommuting Voluntariness</dc:title>

<dc:description>Drawing on social identity theory, this study aims to investigate the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) use at work on an individual’s telecommuting voluntariness through job virtuality and then test the moderating effect of perceived flexibility stigma. A time-lagged field study involving 218 employees in China (Study 1) and a scenario experiment with 159 students from a public university in China (Study 2) were conducted to examine the hypotheses. In the Study 1, a professional data collection platform was used to design and distribute questionnaires and recruit participants from its nationally representative online respondent panel. Complete and valid data from 218 participants were obtained, with an overall effective response rate of 53.6%. Among them, 64.7% were female, the average age was 30.3 years old, 94.5% had a bachelor’s degree, 89% had worked for 3 years or more, and the average years of work was 7 years. In the Study 2, we posited a study seeking business students (including undergraduates and postgraduates) from a large public university in China. Counselors (i.e., full-time student affairs staff who manage grade-level affairs and provide ideological guidance) distributed recruitment notices to all intact business cohorts, sent questionnaire links to student group chats, and only currently enrolled students were eligible to participate. Recruitment lasted one week and closed once we obtained the target valid sample. In response, all 254 participants completed the experiment. However, after removing invalid responses via embedded attention checks, the final valid sample size was 159, with an overall effective response rate of 62.6%. Female respondents accounted for 74.2%, and the average age was 21.25 years old. Those currently enrolled in bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs accounted for 76.1%, 14.5%, and 9.4%, respectively.</dc:description>
