<dc:title>Heterogeneous Implementation of Adaptive Radar Signal Sorting on Custom RFSoC Hardware</dc:title>
  <dc:identifier>doi:10.57760/sciencedb.space.03647</dc:identifier>
  <dc:language>en</dc:language>
<dc:description>Radar signal sorting (RSS) is a foundational task in electronic support measures (ESM) systems, and its deployability on heterogeneous edge hardware governs the field applicability of such systems. Existing adaptive RSS algorithms, however, have largely been validated through simulation-based studies, while their migration to edge hardware platforms remains underexplored. This limited progress stems from tensions between algorithmic demands and platform capabilities: hardcoded parameters forfeit adaptiveness, numerical quantization erodes robustness, and per-batch latency fails to meet operational deadlines. Accordingly, this article presents a heterogeneous hardware implementation of an adaptive RSS method via enhanced density peak clustering (RSSCO-EDPC) on a custom-designed radio-frequency system-on-chip (RFSoC) platform. Guided by task-semantic alignment, regular data-parallel kernels are mapped to the programmable logic (PL) while control-intensive adaptive parameter solving is retained on the processing system (PS), forming a closed loop that re-solves these parameters for every batch of pulse description words (PDWs). The algorithm is then restructured under fidelity-preserving constraints, achieving timing closure within the resource budget of the platform while accelerating batch processing. The platform is engineered in-house, its custom board-level architecture, power and clock topologies, and signal-integrity design being better suited to adaptive RSS deployment than those of commercial evaluation boards. Board-level experiments confirm that the fixed-point implementation preserves the floating-point sorting quality, achieves a near order-of-magnitude speedup (about $9\times$ on average) over an x86 baseline, and maintains sorting accuracy above 95\% under composite stress and sustained continuous operation. These results demonstrate that the implementation retains the adaptiveness and robustness of the algorithm under demanding operating conditions, advancing RSS deployment on edge hardware and enhancing the practical utility of ESM systems.</dc:description>
